What do we do when we notice "problematic" play?

A mom in one of my Portland-based play groups reached out recently to ask for some guidance. Not wanting to talk about the issue in front of her child, she emailed me the details. I emailed her back. Then I asked her if I could publish our correspondence, just in case it helps anyone else who is seeing similar behavior.
